Boo Boo Hack: Use An Old Sock And Gauze

Last night, there was a bit of a fall in the garage and my son scraped up his elbow pretty bad. I had a crying child and I was trying to get dinner on the table... I scoured the medicine cabinet, but I didn't have the right sized band-aid for his large boo-boo, so I remembered what my mother-in-law shared with me last winter. Cut off the top of an old sock (kid-sized). Set aside (I try to keep one with my first aid stuff just in case). Apply neosporin to a gauze pad or length of gauze, wrap it around the wound, and slide the cut off piece of sock up over the wrapped wound. The stretchy elastic top of the sock helps keep the gauze in place! No sticky medical tape and the gauze is the perfect size for larger boo-boos! Hint: this works for grown up boo-boos too!

(another related hack: if the gauze is sticking to the wound for any reason, apply more neosporin over the gauze and rewrap it and wait awhile for it to absorb into gauze. unwrap and peel away !)

  1. What an awesome idea! I'm trying to start my own little meme (although I'm sure there are others out there--nothing you think is original is ever original it seems)....Tuesday's Tips. I'd love for you to stop by one Tuesday if you have more ideas--or link up to this Tuesday's with this one...I'll have to remember this though seriously!
