My sweet girl and I were invited last week to visit the La Jolla location of the nationally recognized cupcake bakery Sprinkles Cupcakes. With 12 locations in major cities across the US, it's become even easier for cupcake lovers to get ther beloved Sprinkle cupcakes. Sprinkles has devoted fans all across the country. We received an exclusive frosting lesson from the incredible staff at Sprinkles La Jolla.
The trick is to load your baked cupcake with a huge dollop of frosting and turn the cupcake in your hand as you frost it, skimming the top with a cupcake beveled cake spatula and cleaning off the spatula as you go. My little miss did a great job.
Once frosted, you can roll it in sprinkles, like she did below or keep it simple.
It was a once in a lifetime super fun experience. Here's a short little video displaying the "sprinkles technique" in action (disclaimer: not my video though):
Here are our creations all together. We frosted a few "black and whites, vanilla and cinnamon sugar and vanilla. So yummy! Third row from the left are the cinnamon sugar. We brushed on some melted butter and then rolled this lightly spiced buttermilk cupcake in cinnamon sugar. Tastes like a churro! It was a huge hit with the men in our family who prefer unfrosted cupcakes.
Sprinkles Cupcakes are handcrafted from the finest ingredients, including sweet cream butter, bittersweet Belgian chocolate, pure Madagascar Bourbon vanilla, fresh bananas and carrots, real strawberries and natural citrus zests. No wonder they taste so good!
If you are travelling to the Southern California area or hosting friends and family, there are several Sprinkles locations you can visit including La Jolla, Newport Beach, Beverly Hills, Los Angeles, and the Grove. For more locations, visit the Sprinkles website.
What's your favorite cupcake flavor?
Disclosure: MY daughter and I attended this special frosting event at Sprinkles La Jolla and we were able to take home the cupcakes we frosted.
