Friday Find: Dollar Store Kids Baking Set

Another great find, this time at Dollar Tree. This kid's baking set is two part - the tools and the mat. Both were a dollar each, but priceless in their capacity for fun! We used ours for pretend baking tonight. The kids spent a great deal of time (okay, it was 45 minutes) making heart shaped "cookies", or as my son called them "hearts for Jesus" (His Sunday School teacher has been talking about what it means to ask Jesus into our hearts-pretty cute.)

I feel like I have joined an elite club of mommies after making two batches of homemade play dough. It was super easy and I didn't have to worry about the colors mixing. And I'm pretty sure the kids were just as happy than if I had paid money. I think all moms should go the homemade route when it comes to play dough - It's so worth it!

Here's the Play Dough Recipe I used:

1 cup flour
1 cup warm water
2 teaspoons cream of tartar
1 teaspoon oil
1/4 cup salt
food coloring

Mix all ingredients, adding food coloring last. Stir over medium heat until smooth. Remove from pan and knead until blended smooth. Place in plastic bag or airtight container when cooled. Will last for a long time.

Instead of food coloring, I add a packet of cool-aid. This gives the color and the smell! And by the way you must of gone to the Dollar Tree in North Vista. I went to the one by the dmv and they didn't have much this week.

  5. What a great find! I have an award for you today on my blog. Drop by if you'd like to receive it!

  6. I don't know if you knew that I always read your blog, but I do! I'm always thinking about participating in Muffin tin Monday, but it never seems to happen!
