I totally nailed this homemade bread. And by nailed i mean nailed the coffin shut. I followed the directions for the bread maker... I don't understand what happened. Interestingly enough it tasted pretty good in the center. What am I doing wrong friends? I would love any advice you have.
A recipe would help, and anything particular, like are you at high altitude, was it extrememly humid, what bread machine --- were you (ahem) distracted reading the ingredients?
ReplyDeleteIt was a basic wheat bread recipe from the Hitashi bread maker manual, and I wasn't distracted, although, you wouldn't be far off base in thinking so. ;) Not high altitude and it is a hitachi home bakery 2. I put all the ingredients in as listed in the corect order...Maybe the mixing handle is slow or broken?
ReplyDeleteWith my bread machine, I've had it a little "loose" in the box and it didn't mix well. Mine is supposed to click in tight when I put the box in after I add the ingredients. If it doesn't, the mixing paddle doesn't work well. Don't know if yours is like that?
ReplyDeleteI have had my bread machine for 3 years and use it almost every day and I have to say, on occasion I have had some funky bread as well. I would try it again and see if it turns out ok next time, oh yes, and I just check everything in, non of that right order business lol.
ReplyDeleteMine looks like that if the mixing paddle is not on all the way.
ReplyDeleteYeast expired?
ReplyDeleteYou might try going rogue and tossing the machine. I have (not intentionally) tried to mess up my Average Joe Artisan Bread many times--forget about it in the bowl, bake it too long, forget an ingredient--and it still comes out yummy. Check out breadkit.com!
